Opus Video Generator vs Claude Code + Remotion
A neutral guide to choosing between a hosted Opus 5.5 video generator and your own Claude Code + Remotion setup: requirements, input, editing, limits, export, cost and who each suits.

Two different workflows
The hosted generator. You write a brief in a form on the homepage and choose the length, format and sound. On our servers, Claude Code with Claude Opus 5.5 runs in a sandbox, writes the video as an HTML animation (it can use Canvas, SVG, GSAP, p5.js or three.js), and checks preview frames. The site then draws every frame in a headless browser and encodes an MP4 with FFmpeg. You receive the MP4; the animation code stays in the sandbox. This generator does not use Remotion.
Claude Code with Remotion. Remotion lets you make videos programmatically with React. You create a project on your own machine, preview it in Remotion Studio and render it with the Remotion CLI, on your own server or with Remotion Lambda. Claude Code is Anthropic's coding agent; it runs in your terminal or the Claude desktop app and edits the project's code for you. Remotion publishes Agent Skills that give Claude Code and other agents its best practices.
In both cases Claude writes code and a renderer turns it into video: Claude models output text, as Anthropic's models overview lists. The difference is who runs and owns that code.
Side by side
| Opus 5.5 Video (hosted) | Claude Code + Remotion (your setup) | |
|---|---|---|
| Install and accounts | Nothing to install. A site account and credits. | Claude Code (macOS 13+, Windows 10 1809+ or a recent Linux; 4 GB+ RAM) with a Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise or Console account, or a cloud provider; Node.js 16+ or Bun for Remotion; a terminal or the Claude desktop app. |
| Input | A text brief of 10 to 4,000 characters plus length, format and sound. Public web pages linked in the brief can be read. No image or video uploads. | Anything in your project: prompts, your own images, footage, fonts, data files and code. |
| Source and changes | You get the MP4, not the code. No timeline and no chat-based revision: edit the brief and generate a new video. | You own a React project. Ask Claude Code for changes or edit the code yourself, and preview them in Remotion Studio. |
| Length and output | 15, 30 or 60 seconds; 16:9 (1920×1080), 9:16 or 1:1; 30 fps H.264 MP4 with AAC sound, or silent. | Depends on your setup: Remotion renders what your composition defines. |
| Export | The server renders the video; press Download MP4. | You render it: Remotion CLI, your own server, or Remotion Lambda. |
| Cost | Credits per video, charged as Claude works and capped by length; unused credits come back. Details below. | Your Claude plan or API usage, your rendering hardware or cloud bill, a Remotion company license if it applies, and your time. |
| Debugging | The site runs the sandbox and renderer. A failed video is refunded; you adjust the brief. | You: dependency versions, render errors, fonts, assets and spend. |
| Suits | One-off short motion graphics from a written brief, without a development setup. | Developers and teams who need source control, their own assets, fine edits or a repeatable pipeline. |
What each one costs
Hosted generator, current configuration. A video starts at 50 credits. More is charged only as Claude works, up to 200 credits for 15 seconds, 300 for 30 and 500 for 60; a typical 15-second video ends around 40 credits. Credits charged ahead and not used come back, and a failed video is refunded in full. Credits come from monthly or yearly plans or one-time packs on the pricing page. Videos from accounts without a purchase carry a moving watermark.
Your own setup. There is no single price; it is the sum of:
- Claude access: a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan, or API usage through the Console or a cloud provider. Via the API, Claude Opus 5.5 is listed at $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens; how many tokens a video takes depends on the project.
- Rendering: your own computer, a server, or a cloud bill if you render with Remotion Lambda.
- Remotion license: free for some users, required for others (next section).
- Time: setting up, learning Remotion and keeping versions working.
A free framework does not make the whole workflow free. We have not measured a per-video cost for a self-built setup, so this guide does not quote one.
Licensing
According to Remotion's license as published on 1 October 2026, individuals, for-profit organizations with up to three employees, non-profit organizations and non-commercial evaluation may use Remotion for free; a for-profit organization with more than three employees needs a company license to use it commercially. Pricing is on remotion.pro. Read the license text yourself before relying on this summary.
Claude Code is used under your Anthropic account terms; the free claude.ai plan does not include it.
Three examples
1. One 15-second launch animation for next week. Recommendation: the hosted generator. You need one short video, not a project, and the cost is capped before you start. The homepage sample of a product launch video shows what this looks like; you can start from its brief:
Start with the launch brief
Fills in the generator only. You press Generate.2. A brand project you will refine many times. Recommendation: Claude Code with Remotion (or a motion designer). You will need your own logo files, fonts and footage, many small changes to individual scenes, and version history. The hosted generator cannot take uploads and regenerates the whole video for every change. It can still help you try a direction quickly before you commit to building.
3. A developer with an existing setup who needs a custom animation. Recommendation: Claude Code with Remotion. If Node.js and Claude Code are already installed, the setup cost is mostly paid. You can reuse your own components and data, render longer than 60 seconds and automate renders, none of which the hosted generator does.
Limits of the hosted generator
Know these before you choose it:
- One brief makes one video of 15, 30 or 60 seconds. There is no timeline, no frame-by-frame editing and no chat-based revision.
- No image, video or font uploads. Visuals are drawn in code; public pages linked in the brief can be read for names, wording and images.
- The animation code is not exported; you download the MP4.
- Sound is synthesized music or silence. Voiceover is offered only when the site has it switched on.
- One video per account can be in progress at a time.
- Text is drawn exactly as Claude wrote it into the code, but you should still check every word before publishing.
FAQ
Should I use an online Opus video generator or Claude Code with Remotion?
Use the online generator when you have a written brief and want a short MP4 without setting anything up. Use Claude Code with Remotion when you need the source code, your own media, scene-level edits, videos longer than 60 seconds or an automated pipeline, and you can maintain a development environment.
Can I make Claude motion graphics without setting up a development environment?
Yes. The hosted generator runs Claude Code with Claude Opus 5.5 on our servers: you write the brief in the browser and download the rendered MP4. You need an account and credits, but no installation, terminal or API key.
Does this site use Remotion?
No. Claude writes an HTML animation in a sandbox, and the site renders it with a headless browser and FFmpeg.
Can I get the code of a video made here?
No. You download the MP4. The work log shows what Claude did, but the project files stay in the sandbox.
Is Remotion free?
For individuals, for-profit organizations with up to three employees, non-profits and non-commercial evaluation, according to its license on the date above. Larger for-profit organizations need a company license. Your Claude access and rendering costs are separate either way.
Do I need a paid Claude plan to use Claude Code?
Yes: Claude Code requires a Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise or Console account, or access through Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud or Microsoft Foundry. The free claude.ai plan does not include it.
