How to Make an Opus 5.5 Video: From Prompt to MP4
A step-by-step walkthrough of the Opus 5.5 video generator: write the brief, pick length and format, check the credit charge, follow the render, check the result and download the MP4.
What happens between the prompt and the MP4
Claude models take text and images as input and produce text as output, as listed in Anthropic's models overview. On this site, Claude Opus 5.5 uses that output to write an HTML animation as code inside a sandbox, checks preview frames of it, and then the site's renderer draws every frame in a headless browser and encodes them into an MP4 with synthesized sound. That is how this generator works; it is not a statement about what every Claude workflow can or cannot do.
Preview the finished video
This guide follows one complete example, using the existing sample from the homepage: a launch video for Acme Notes, a made-up note-taking app. It was not generated for this guide. Claude Opus 5.5 wrote it from the brief below in a Claude Code session, following the same rules a customer video follows, and the generator's own renderer turned it into the MP4. Because of that, this guide does not quote a generation time or a credit charge for it.
Play it to see the result. The figures below come from the published file.
- 15.0 s
- 16:9 · 1920×1080
- 30 fps
- H.264 video, AAC stereo sound
- Synthesized music, no voiceover
- No watermark
Brief: A launch video for Acme Notes, a note-taking app that tags and organizes notes automatically. Dark background with warm orange accents. Open on the product name and the line "Notes that organize themselves". Then show the app window: three notes type themselves in and each gets a tag. Search for "launch", show "Auto-tagged. Instantly searchable." and end on a button that says "Try Acme Notes free".
What you can see in it, in order:
- An "Introducing" label, then the name Acme Notes and the line "Notes that organize themselves".
- The app window: notes type themselves in one at a time and each gets a tag (meeting, idea, todo), with the caption "Just write. Every note tags itself." below.
- A search for "launch" that finds one note, under the headline "Auto-tagged. Instantly searchable."
- An end card with the logo, the tagline and a button that says "Try Acme Notes free".
The published file is 4.9 MB because the samples were re-encoded for the web; your downloaded file will have a different size.
Copy the brief
Use Copy prompt on the card above, or Start with this brief, which opens the generator with this brief, 15 seconds, 16:9 and music already selected. It only fills in the form: nothing is generated until you press the button yourself, and if the form already holds text you wrote, it is kept and you are asked before it is replaced.
The sample brief works because it gives Opus 5.5 four things in a few sentences:
- What it is for: "A launch video for Acme Notes, a note-taking app that tags and organizes notes automatically."
- The look: "Dark background with warm orange accents."
- The scenes in order: the name and line, the app window with notes typing in, the search, the end button.
- The exact words that must appear on screen, in quotation marks.
For more on writing briefs, see Opus 5.5 video prompts.
Choose the settings and check the cost
Below the brief box the generator has three controls:
- Video length: 15, 30 or 60 seconds. Writing a different length in the brief does not change it.
- Format: 16:9 (1920×1080), 9:16 (1080×1920) or 1:1 (1080×1080). All are rendered at 30 fps.
- Sound: Music, Voiceover or Silent. Voiceover can only be selected when the site has it switched on; otherwise the option is greyed out.
The brief must be at least 10 and at most 4,000 characters. If you are not signed in, pressing Generate saves your brief and opens sign-in; after signing in you return to the generator with the brief restored.
Before you press Generate, read the line under the button. It shows what this video starts at and the most it can cost for the chosen length, and once you are signed in it shows the credits available for videos. Credits are charged in steps while Opus 5.5 works, never above that limit, and what is charged ahead but not used comes back when the video is finished. If your balance is below the starting charge, the generator says so and links to credits. Plans and packs are on the pricing page.
Two more things the generator checks before anything is charged: a brief that is not a video request, or that is unsafe, is refused; and an account can have one video in progress at a time. Videos from accounts without a purchase carry a small moving watermark, as the note under the button says.
Start with this brief
Fills in the form only. You press Generate.Follow the generation and render
After you press Generate, the preview area shows the current stage and the workbench below it shows Opus 5.5's work as it happens:
- Setting up the studio: a sandbox starts for your video. The first start after a site update can take a few minutes.
- Opus 5.5 is working: its thinking, the files it writes, its plan as a checklist and its preview checks stream into the workbench, together with the credits used so far and the limit for this video.
- Rendering frames: the finished animation is drawn frame by frame, with "Frame N of M" progress.
- Encoding the MP4: the frames and the soundtrack are encoded and the file is saved.
- Done: the video replaces the progress display.
You can leave the page while this runs; the video keeps going. When you come back, it is listed under Your recent videos and opens from there.
Check the text and the length
When the video is ready, the generator shows the player, a short description Opus 5.5 wrote of what it made, and the credits charged. Watch the whole video before you use it and check:
- Every word on screen, against your brief: names, numbers, dates and the call to action. Text is drawn in code, so it is sharp, but it can still differ from what you meant.
- Words you did not ask for. In the sample, the caption "Just write. Every note tags itself." is not in the brief; Opus 5.5 added it. If you want only your words, say so in the brief, for example "show only these words".
- The length and the format you chose, and that nothing is cut off at the edges, especially in 9:16.
- The pacing: each line should stay on screen long enough to read.
Download the MP4
Press Download MP4 under the player. The file is an MP4 at the size of your format, 30 fps, with the sound you chose. The video, its brief and its work log stay in your account, and only you can open them.
If your account has no purchase yet, the video carries the moving watermark. Any purchase removes it from new videos and unlocks the saved watermark-free copy of earlier ones; the generator shows that option next to the download.
Change the brief and generate again
A finished video cannot be edited: there is no timeline and no chat-based revision. To change a word, a scene or the timing, edit the brief and generate a new video. Make another clears the result so the form is free again.
Each new generation is a separate video and is charged from the start, under the same rules: a starting charge, more only as Opus 5.5 works, never above the limit for its length, and unused credits returned. A video that fails is refunded in full. If you run out of credits during a video, it pauses with its work saved; after adding credits you can press Continue, or Finish with what is built to render what is there.
Troubleshooting
Too much text on screen. Shorten every label to a few words and keep one idea per scene. A 15-second video has room for a title, one point and a call to action; move the rest to a 30- or 60-second video or a second video.
Scenes look crowded. Ask for fewer elements per scene, name what should be large, and list the scenes in order with rough timings. Choosing a longer length gives each scene more time.
Waiting a long time. The first start after an update can take a few minutes. You can leave the page; the video continues and stays in your recent videos. If Opus 5.5 reaches the time or credit limit for the video, it wraps up with what it has built, and the workbench says so.
The video failed. The message says why, for example that the animation could not be rendered or that the run took too long, and your credits are refunded. Retry with this brief puts the brief, length and format back into the form so you can adjust and generate again.
"A video is already in progress." One video per account can be made at a time. Wait for it to finish, or open it from your recent videos.
The brief was refused. Briefs that are not a description of a video are refused before any credits are charged. Rewrite it as what should appear on screen, scene by scene.
Not enough credits. The line under the button shows how many the video needs to start; see the pricing page.
