Is the Rumpelstiltskin Dance AI or From the 1987 Movie? Origin, Song and Meme Explained

The tiptoeing Rumpelstiltskin is AI-generated, not a scene from the 1987 film. Where the clip came from, how it became a meme, what song it uses ("Tip Toe Wing In My Jawwdinz") and how people put their own faces in it.

Is it from the 1987 movie?

No. The 1987 Rumpelstiltskin is real: a Cannon Movie Tales musical with Billy Barty in the title role and Amy Irving as the miller's daughter, which you can still watch on Tubi. The meme's 80s fairy-tale look made people assume it came from that film, but the barn scene is not in it.

The clip was made with AI and first posted in August 2026. Know Your Meme lists it as an AI video, and news coverage in October 2026 described it the same way. The full AI clip also ends differently from any film version: the straw turns to gold and the little man becomes a prince.

Where the clip came from

Timeline (2026)
DateWhat happened
August 27An AI-generated fairy-tale clip is posted on Instagram; Know Your Meme credits the AI artist Stroinaya (Tatyana Tereshchenko) and lists other AI pages that posted it. A little man creeps up on a girl crying in a hay barn, shushes her, dances, turns the straw to gold and becomes a prince.
Late SeptemberTikTok users cut the shush-and-tiptoe part to a Riff Raff song. The pairing spreads as a reaction for sneaking around or being far too proud of something small.
Early OctoberReposts on X reach millions of views, and outlets including NBC News cover the "creepy" AI Rumpelstiltskin.
October onwardPeople recast it with AI: streamers, actors, friends and themselves in place of the little man and the girl.

What song is it?

"Tip Toe Wing In My Jawwdinz" by Riff Raff, a 2014 single from his album Neon Icon. The way the hook is sung is why most people search for it as "tip toeing in my Jordans" or "tip toein' in my Jordans". The original AI clip has a different, fairy-tale soundtrack; the rap song was added by the people who turned it into a meme.

Why it took off

  • It looks like a lost 80s movie. The grain, the warm colours and the costume make people ask "what film is this?", and the answer is surprising.
  • One beat carries the joke. The shush, the grin and the side-to-side tiptoe work as a reaction to anything sneaky.
  • The song fits too well. "Tip toeing" lands exactly on the tiptoe steps.
  • It is easy to recast. Because the clip is AI-made, people use AI to put new faces into it, which keeps new versions coming.

Make your own version

Most recasts swap faces into the original scene. With the Rumpelstiltskin AI generator you upload two photos (one for the dancer, one for the watcher) or one photo in Solo mode, and get the same 12 seconds with the meme song, in 16:9 or as a 9:16 version for TikTok. The step-by-step guide covers photos, settings and posting.

Rumpelstiltskin or Rumplestiltskin?

The fairy-tale name from the Brothers Grimm is spelled Rumpelstiltskin; "Rumplestiltskin" is a common misspelling. Both searches lead to the same meme.

A note on rights

The song belongs to its rights holders and the original clip to its creators. This site is not affiliated with Riff Raff, the creators of the AI clip or the makers of the 1987 film. When you post a recast, only use faces of people who agreed to it.
